Beijing Museum of Natural History has a group of experts engaged in the research on zoology, botany, paleontology and anthropology. They collect specimens to do research to yield thesis and monograph, which enjoy certain fame at home and abroad. These experts become the indispensable backing for the museum. Now there are research departments on zoology, botany, paleontology and anthropology in the museum.
Chong-chien Young (1897-1979) The founder of paleontology in China, celebrated paleontologist. Elected to be the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1955, the first director of Beijing Museum of Natural History.
Pei Wenzhong (1904-1982) Renowned archeologist of prehistory, anthropologist. Elected to be the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1955, the first Chairman of Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums, and the second director of Beijing Museum of Natural History.

Zhou Mingzhen (1918-1996) Renowned paleontologist. Elected to be the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980, the second Chairman of Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums, and the third director of Beijing Museum of Natural History.

Xu Ren (1910-1992) Renowned paleobotanist. Elected to be the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. The deputy-director of Beijing Museum of Natural History.

Zheng Zuoxin (1906-1998) Renowned ornithologist. Elected to be the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. The deputy-director of Beijing Museum of Natural History.

Beijing Museum of Natural History grew out of the preparation department of National Central Museum of Natural History founded in 1951.
  1962
Beijing Museum of Natural History was formally named in 1962.
  1979
In 1979, the museum initiated the Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums that is playing more and more important role in the museum field today.
  1980
Thereafter, Memoirs of Beijing Natural History Museum and Nature started publication in 1980.
  1982
The Illustration of Biological History was edited and published in 1982.
